More about this Park

Established in 1952, Murchison Falls National Park is a sprawling 3,840 sq km sanctuary where diverse ecosystems of savannah, woodland, wetland, and tropical forest thrive, bisected by the defining Nile River. The park’s dramatic highlight is Murchison Falls, where the Nile surges through a mere seven-meter chasm, plunging 43 meters with a thunderous roar and often painting rainbows in its spray. Excellent game drives reveal lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, various antelopes, and primates like baboons. A Nile boat safari offers tranquil encounters with hippos, crocodiles, diverse waterbirds, and unique views of the falls. Hiking to the top provides stunning panoramas, and a visit to the nearby Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary allows for impactful rhino tracking on foot, enriching the regional wildlife experience. Birdwatchers will delight in over 450 recorded species, including the iconic shoebill stork.
