A lush emerald jewel in western Uganda, is a haven for primates. Traverse its ancient canopy, alive with the calls of chimpanzees, our closest relatives. This biodiverse park, a crucial protected area, offers intimate encounters with habituated chimp communities and a vibrant tapestry of forest life, inviting you to witness the wonders of the African rainforest.
Kibale Forest National Park, often dubbed the “Primate Capital of the World,” protects a substantial block of moist evergreen forest, interspersed with patches of grassland and swamp. This diverse habitat supports the highest density and variety of primates in Africa, including a thriving population of chimpanzees, estimated at over 1,500 individuals. The opportunity to trek and spend time observing these fascinating creatures in their natural environment is a truly special experience.
Beyond chimpanzees, Kibale is home to twelve other primate species, such as the playful red colobus, the acrobatic black and white colobus, and the elusive L’Hoest’s monkey. The forest floor and canopy also harbor a rich array of other wildlife, including forest elephants, bushbucks, duikers, and a vibrant assortment of butterflies.
